![]() With 10 more states launching since last year, plus New York launching its mobile sports betting program, which hit a national monthly handle record of $1.6 billion in January, sportsbooks will be overwhelmed with a wall of money, oddsmakers and gamblers from across the country say. Last year, during Super Bowl LV, only 20 states had legal sports betting. This means more than 100 million Americans can place a legal wager where they live. There are now some 30 states where sports betting is legal, including 19 that allow online sports wagering. Bettors will wager an estimated $7.61 billion, up 78% from last year. According to a new report by the American Gaming Association, 31.4 million Americans plan to bet on Super Bowl LVI, a 35% increase from 2021. Super Bowl LVI is expected to draw a record number of gamblers like Danny, who are expected to bet a record amount of money.
